INTRODUCTION

🌿Biobased Ethyl Acetate is an environmentally friendly solvent made from renewable sources like bioethanol extracted from sugarcane, corn, and other forms of biomass. Unlike traditional ethyl acetate, which is typically derived from fossil fuels, this green alternative shares the same chemical structure (C₄H₈O₂) and functional performance—offering comparable versatility with a significantly lower environmental footprint.

💧Thanks to its low toxicity, mild scent, biodegradability, and strong solvency properties, biobased ethyl acetate is gaining popularity in sustainable industrial processes. It plays a key role in promoting green manufacturing and helps meet regulatory standards—particularly in regions with strict environmental and emissions guidelines.

Manufacture

The primary method for ethyl acetate production is Fischer esterification, where bio-ethanol reacts with acetic acid under catalytic conditions to produce biobased  Ethyl Acetate. It is further distilled and purified to meet industrial-grade or food/pharmaceutical-grade specifications, depending on the end-use.

Applications

It is used in artificial fruit essences and gives artificial flavors like Pear, banana, pineapple, peach and strawberry.
It is also used as the solvent in:

Flavour Fragrance industry
Decaffeination processing
Printing inks used for direct food packaging
Along with above mentioned speciality applications,
biobased Ethyl Acetate can also be used in traditional applications such as:
Manufacturing of a variety of coating formulations such as epoxies, urethanes, cellulosics, acrylics and vinyls.
Excellent solvent for cellulose ethers, nitrocellulose, lacquers, enamels, flexible packaging and printing inks, adhesives and it is also used as a process solvent.
In the agricultural industry as a solvent to make agrochemicals.
In the pharmaceutical industry as a flavour enhancer and extraction agent in medicine manufacturing.
