INTRODUCTION
Rheological additives are essential components in paint formulations used to control the flow and viscosity of the paint. Modified rheological additives are advanced formulations of traditional rheological additives. They are designed to offer improved performance, versatility, or specific functional properties in applications like paints, coatings etc.

OnADD® – PLCW is a high viscosity, economical, organically modified Rheological additive for water-based system. It provides viscosity built up, good pigment suspension, excellent sag control and very good bio stability. It increases the water scrub resistance of the coating film.
APPLICATIONS
Provide better leveling, sag resistance, and color consistency in following applications
Paints and Coatings |
Textured coatings |
Synthetic plaster (putty) |
Acrylic & oil bound distemper |
ADVANTAGES
Viscosity Control |
---|
Rheological additives adjust the thickness of a fluid to ensure it has the right flow characteristics for application (e.g., brushing, spraying). |
Thixotropy (Anti-Sagging) |
---|
Rheological additives provides thixotropy to the paint system . This thixotropic behavior is key in water-based paints, where the viscosity decreases during application (under shear) and recovers when at rest. This prevents the paint from sagging or running after application, leading to even coverage and sharp edges in the painted surface. |
Application Properties |
---|
They enhance the ease of application, prevent sagging in vertical applications, and improve leveling and surface finish. |
Anti-Splattering |
---|
In paints and coatings, rheological additives help reduce splattering during roller or brush application. |
Enhanced Storage Stability |
---|
Water-based paints can suffer from phase separation or settling during storage. Rheological additives help maintain long-term stability by preventing the separation of components like water, pigments, and binders, ensuring the paint remains ready for use without extensive mixing. These applications highlight the versatility and critical role of modified Rheological additives in enhancing the performance, stability, and user experience of water-based paints. |
INCORPORATION
In Situ: |
---|
Add to the water rich phase as early in the manufacturing process as possible. Anionic surfactant can enhances the thickening effect when used with OnADD® – PLCW |
Pregel: |
---|
Pregel can be prepared by dispensing up to 2% – 3% of OnADD® – PLCW in water under high- speed dispersion equipment with Cowles Blades. |
Dosage : |
---|
Typical dosage of OnADD® – PLCW is from 0.3 to 1.5% depending upon the type of system and degree of thickening or other properties desired |

Commonly known as potassium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (KFSI), the compound has a three-carbon backbone bearing six fluorine atoms and two sulfonimide (-SO₂F) groups. The molecule’s architecture lends it both high chemical stability and useful reactivity. Because of its excellent ionic conductivity and thermal / electrochemical stability, it finds use in advanced electrolyte formulations—for example in lithium-ion and next-generation batteries, in ionic liquids, and in other electrochemical systems.
Colchicine is a naturally occurring alkaloid obtained primarily from the autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale) and related species. It has been used in medicine for centuries, especially for the treatment of gout and Familial Mediterranean Fever. In modern medicine, Colchicine is valued also in conditions like pericarditis, Behçet’s disease, and certain dermatological and cardiac disorders.
1-Butylimidazole is a versatile organic heterocyclic compound belonging to the imidazole family, where a butyl group (–CH₂–CH₂–CH₂–CH₃) is attached to the nitrogen atom at the 1-position of the imidazole ring. Its applications span organic synthesis, materials science, and bioactive compound development due to its tunable physicochemical properties and structural versatility.
Atropine sulfate monohydrate is a chemical compound, specifically a salt of atropine and sulfuric acid, with one water molecule (monohydrate) attached. It is commonly used as a medication and in research due to its anticholinergic properties, meaning it blocks the effects of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors.
4-Aminobenzoic acid, commonly abbreviated as PABA, is an aromatic amine and carboxylic acid compound. It consists of a benzene ring substituted with an amino group (–NH₂) in the para position to a carboxylic acid group (–COOH).
2-Amino-5-Nitrophenol (5-NAP) is an organic compound with the molecular formula C₆H₆N₂O₃. It is a substituted phenol with both an amino group (-NH₂) and a nitro group (-NO₂) attached to a benzene ring, along with a hydroxyl group (-OH).
Pongamol is a naturally occurring flavonoid primarily extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Pongamia pinnata tree (also known as Karanja tree), native to South and Southeast Asia. It is a cream-colored compound that belongs to the flavonoid family and is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and pesticidal properties. It is one of the key bioactive constituents of Pongamia oil.
Biobased Ethyl Acetate is an environmentally friendly solvent made from renewable sources like bioethanol extracted from sugarcane, corn, and other forms of biomass. Unlike traditional ethyl acetate, which is typically derived from fossil fuels, this green alternative shares the same chemical structure (C₄H₈O₂) and functional performance—offering comparable versatility with a significantly lower environmental footprint.
Palmitoyl chloride is a long-chain fatty acid derivative. It is the acid chloride form of palmitic acid; a saturated fatty acid commonly found in palm oil and other natural fats. It appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a sharp odour and is highly reactive, especially toward water, alcohols, and amines.
