INTRODUCTION
2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole is a yellowish liquid with an amine-like odor. It is a versatile intermediate with a variety of applications.
2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole is one of the most common and widely used curing agent in variety of epoxy resins due to high curing efficiency, intermediate curing temperature of epoxy/imidazole resin system and excellent mechanical property of curing product.
Manufacture
The product is formed by condensation of amidine with hydroxy acetone, the former in turn a product of reaction between ammonia and propionitrile.
