2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone, popular as benzophenone-1 in cosmetic industry, is a highly conjugated bicyclic compound. The conjugation leads to its uses in cosmetic and other industries. It is also a key raw material to produce value-added intermediates as well as agrochemicals.
Manufacture
The bicyclic ketone is manufactured by Friedel Craft acylation between resorcinol and benzoyl chloride.
