INTRODUCTION

Ammonium dimolybdate commonly known as ADM, is an inorganic compound. It is a white, water-soluble solid and serves as an intermediate in producing molybdenum compounds from its ores.

MANUFACTURE

It is produced by roasting molybdenum ore to obtain its trioxide, which is then leached with ammonium hydroxide to form ammonium dimolybdate. This solution is crystallized, filtered, and dried to yield the final white, water-soluble ADM.

APPLICATIONS

ADM has wide range of applications. Some listed below:

It is a raw material for producing molybdenum powder, ceramic pigments, and other molybdenum compounds
It is used in roasting to make molybdenum trioxide, which is then reduced to molybdenum powder and used to manufacture molybdenum flakes, wires, and components
It is used to produce catalysts for petroleum refining such as hydrogenation and desulfurization, fertilizers, and dyes
It is used in metal surface treatments to enhance adhesion, corrosion resistance, and durability, especially in high-performance applications
It provides molybdenum for trace element fertilizers, essential for plant growth, nitrogen fixation, and enzyme activation
