INTRODUCTION

Sodium monochloroacetate (SMCA), or sodium chloroacetate, is the sodium salt of monochloroacetic acid. It is derived from the chlorination of acetic acid, followed by neutralization with sodium hydroxide. It is hygroscopic in nature and highly soluble in water.
